Diagnostic Radiologists

Physicians trained to interpret all imaging studies from plain X-rays, mammograms, ultrasound, CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), PET, Nuclear Medicine scans; as well as perform diagnostic tests including intravenous pyelogram/urogram, myelograms, fluoroscopy, upper GI examinations, etc. Many study for an additional year for further subspecialization such as Neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, or nuclear medicine. Interventional Radiologists

Diagnostic radiologists who train for an additional year to specialize in minimally invasive procedures utilizing image guidance such as angiography catheterizations, angioplasty, stents, embolization, biopsies, drainages, tumor ablations, etc. These procedures are usually performed without surgery, in specialized treatment rooms.
