MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography) uses a large magnet to create images of arteries and veins in the human body without radiation or X-Rays. Some MRA examinations require the use of intravenous Gadolinium-based contrast to make the arteries and veins more visible. The MRA examination typically takes about 45 minutes. The resulting images will be interpreted by a specially trained Interventional Radiologist who can identify and diagnose diseases of the arteries and veins.
MRA is commonly used to evaluate the blood vessels in the brain, neck, heart, lungs, abdomen, pelvis, kidneys, and legs. MRA is an integral tool in the diagnosis and treatment of various vascular diseases including Peripheral Arterial Disease in the legs, Atherosclerosis of the carotid arteries in the neck, Venous Congestion in the pelvis, and Aneurysms in the brain, to name a few.
